How to Cancel Rocket Money (Premium, Banks, and Account)
Quick answer
Canceling Rocket Money is up to three separate actions, and one does not do the others. To stop the charge: Settings, then "Membership," then "Manage Membership," drag the price slider to "$0/month," and tap "Cancel Subscription" (their documented steps). To cut off bank access, unlink your accounts separately. To erase your data, delete the account, which requires ending Premium, negotiations, and goals first.
Rocket Money at a glance
| Premium price | Choose-your-own slider (their help center does not publish the range); App Store options run $2.99 to $9.99 a month as of September 2026; billed monthly or annually per their terms |
| Free tier | Keeps running after Premium is canceled (per their help center) |
| Cancel channels | Self-serve in the app or at app.rocketmoney.com; Apple-billed memberships cancel through Apple instead |
| When it ends | End of the current billing cycle; Premium works until then |
| Refund stance | None published: their Terms of Use state no Premium refund policy; negotiation fees are non-refundable except for errors (as of September 2026) |
| Deleting the account | Permanently erases your data; requires canceling Premium, negotiations, and goals first |
| Last verified | 2026-09-05 |
Rocket Money competes with ReNood, so this page follows a strict rule: every load-bearing claim comes from Rocket Money's own published pages, their help center, Terms of Use, and App Store listing, read September 5, 2026, and anything not found there is marked as reported instead of asserted.
Which of the three cancels do you want?
"Cancel Rocket Money" means three different things:
- Cancel Premium: stops the charge. The free account, budgets, and tracking stay.
- Unlink your bank accounts: disconnects the live feeds. Premium cancellation does not do this.
- Delete the account: permanently erases your data. Requires canceling Premium, ending bill negotiations, and closing goals first.
Just stopping the payment? Step 1. Leaving for another tracker or the manual method? Steps 1 and 2. Wanting your data gone? All three, in order.
How do you cancel Rocket Money Premium?
From Rocket Money's help center, exact labels. In the app:
- Open Settings (the gear icon).
- Tap "Membership."
- Tap "Manage Membership."
- Drag the price slider to "$0/month."
- Tap "Cancel Subscription" and follow the prompts to the end.
On the web:
- Sign in at app.rocketmoney.com.
- Open Settings (the gear icon), then "Membership."
- Select "Manage" in the upper right.
- Move the slider to "$0/month," select "Cancel Subscription," and complete the prompts.
The slider is the step stale guides miss. Rocket Money prices Premium as pick-your-own within a range, so canceling is literally dragging your price to zero.
Tip
A slider left at a low number changes your price; it does not cancel. The cancellation is "$0/month," then "Cancel Subscription," then finishing every remaining prompt.
One fork the help center leaves out: Rocket Money's App Store listing sells Premium as an Apple in-app purchase, so Apple-billed memberships exist, and those cancel through Apple, not the slider. If your charge reads APPLE.COM/BILL, cancel from iPhone Settings, per our iPhone subscriptions guide.
What happens after you cancel Premium?
Their help center answers in three lines worth quoting:
- "Cancellation takes effect at the end of your billing cycle. You'll still have access to Premium Membership features until then."
- "Canceling Premium Membership does not delete your Rocket Money account."
- "Any active Bill Negotiations remain in place."
That last line is the one to act on. Bill negotiation is a separate service with its own success fee, and canceling Premium does not end it. To stop paying entirely, cancel active negotiations too, before one completes and bills its fee.
Also from their help center: some users get Premium free through Rocket Mortgage servicing; canceling saves them nothing.
How do you unlink your bank accounts?
Canceling Premium leaves your linked accounts connected; the free tier keeps using them. Their help center documents the path. In the app: Settings (the gear icon), then "Linked Accounts," then tap "Unlink" next to the institution and confirm with "Unlink My Account." On the web: Settings, "Linked Accounts," the three dots next to the account, "Unlink," then "Yes, unlink." Repeat per institution. One warning from the same article: unlinking permanently erases that account's historic data, categorization, and transaction edits in Rocket Money, even if you relink later. Plaid connections can also be revoked at my.plaid.com (reported).
How do you delete your Rocket Money account and data?
Deletion has prerequisites, straight from the help center: cancel Premium, cancel any active bill negotiations, and close any financial goals. Goals matter because smart savings can be holding your money; closing a goal is how it comes back (mechanics reported).
Then, in the app: open Settings (the gear icon), tap "Profile," scroll to the bottom, tap "Delete My Account," and confirm with "Yes, I'm Sure." On the web: Settings, then "Profile," scroll to the bottom, select "Delete Rocket Money Account," and confirm.
Their help center is explicit: deletion "will permanently erase all of your Rocket Money data" and "cannot be undone," and other Rocket accounts, like Rocket Mortgage, are unaffected. A dedicated "Rocket Money privacy rights" article also exists; for a formal privacy-law request (CCPA-style deletion) on record, start there.
Can you get a refund on the annual plan?
Their Terms of Use, read September 5, 2026, publish no refund policy for Premium memberships, and the help center's Premium collection has no refund article either. The one refund line in the terms covers bill negotiation instead: the negotiation fee is non-refundable except when an error was made during the negotiation or where the law requires it. What is documented for Premium: cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing cycle you paid for.
If you paid a year upfront, ask their support soon after deciding. No published policy promises either answer; treat any refund as discretionary.
What retention offers will you see?
The slider is the save-flow: dragging toward zero is reported to surface cheaper price points before the "Cancel Subscription" button. If Premium earns its keep at some smaller number, stopping there is a legitimate outcome, not a trick.
If you hit a wall
Hard walls are rare; the flows are self-serve and documented. The likely snags are money-shaped: an annual payment you want partially refunded, or a negotiation that completes late. How to cancel any subscription covers escalation, and the refund playbook covers asking for money back when no policy promises it.
Leaving one tracker does not end the job it did: knowing what charges you each month. If part of leaving is wanting fewer apps holding a live bank connection, the manual route works: ReNood reads a screenshot or PDF of your statement and finds the recurring charges on it, no bank login required.

How do I unlink my bank from Rocket Money?
Separately from canceling: Premium cancellation leaves bank connections in place. Per their help center: Settings (the gear icon), then "Linked Accounts," then "Unlink" next to the institution, confirming with "Unlink My Account" (on the web, the three dots, "Unlink," then "Yes, unlink"). Unlinking permanently erases that account's history and edits in Rocket Money. Plaid connections can also be revoked at my.plaid.com (reported). Deleting the account entirely erases your Rocket Money data, per their help center.
Can I get a refund on the annual plan?
No published policy promises one: their Terms of Use state no refund policy for Premium, and the help center's Premium collection contains no refund article. The terms' only refund line covers the bill-negotiation fee, non-refundable except for errors or where law requires. Cancellation is documented to take effect at the end of the billing cycle. If you prepaid a year, ask their support; any refund is discretionary.
